The National Council of State Boards of Nursing selected Mary Mishler, RN, MSN, APRN, CNE, a faculty member at Gloucester County College in Sewell, N.J., to serve as a volunteer item writer for the NCLEX-RN.

One of 12 nurses from across the nation chosen for this assignment, the New Jersey Board of Nursing approved Mishler to participate on the NCLEX-RN item development panel of subject matter experts from Aug. 6-9 in Chicago. According to a news release, she was nominated on the basis of her clinical specialty and nursing expertise.

Mishler is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she earned a BSN and an MSN. She said in the release that being selected for this activity was a pivotal point in her career, bringing it full circle since she served as an item reviewer early in her clinical practice experience.

"I participated both on the panel of judges and as an item reviewer earlier in my career and this was the one area of the national licensure exam I hadnít participated in," Mishler said in the release. "It was nice to serve again as a writer and itís an honor to have the college in which I work, Gloucester County, recognized as a result."
