Casey Shillam, RN, PhD, an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, will receive a $20,000 New Nursing Faculty Fellowship grant from the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

According to a news release, the fellowship was established to recognize the skill and willingness of new faculty such as Shillam, who joined JHUSON in spring 2012, to begin bridging the nursing gap.

"This is a critical time in nursing, especially in how we educate nurses to meet the needs of the future," Shillam, who is affiliated with the Department of Acute and Chronic Care, said in the release. "We are preparing the next generation of nurses as leaders in the healthcare system with a broad and diverse understanding of where and when nursing care is delivered across the country and the globe. This is truly an exciting opportunity to have such an incredible impact on the future."
