University of Maryland School of Nursing honors Allan with dean emeritus title

Janet D. Allan, RN, PhD, FAAN, former dean of the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore, has been honored with the title of dean emeritus and will remain at the University of Maryland, Baltimore working on several key initiatives to help strengthen the university, according to a news release.

As dean emeritus, Allan will continue to help to shape interprofessional education, conferring with her successor, Jane Kirschling, RN, PhD, FAAN, who upon becoming UMSON dean also accepted a new position as UMBís director of interprofessional education.

According to the release, in her new role, Allan will work with senior leadership of the UMB Office of Academic Affairs to implement policies of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.

Allan will help to establish criteria for the periodic evaluation of deans and senior vice presidents and criteria to encourage entrepreneurial achievement at various levels. Allan retired as UMSON dean Dec. 31.
