Hospital units at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Manhattan, and St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, N.Y., were among 98 nationally to be recognized with a 2012 Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
AACN, which released the complete list of winners Feb. 13 on its website, awarded a Gold-level Beacon to the cardiothoracic ICU at St. Francis. The unit was one of 29 across the country to receive Gold-level status. The 2 Southwest unit at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell earned Silver-level status.
The AACN also awards a Bronze-level status. The Beacon lauds hospital units that employ evidence-based practices to improve patient and family outcomes.
Hospital units that receive a Gold-level Beacon, according to an AACN news release, demonstrate staff-driven excellence in sustained unit performance and patient outcomes that exceed national benchmarks.
Silver-level Beacon recipients demonstrate continuous learning and effective systems to achieve optimal patient care.
