Trinitas achieves 'A’ from Leapfrog Group for patient safety

Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth, N.J., has earned an "A" grade in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group.

The Leapfrog scores and letter grades apply to all general acute care hospitals for which the organization obtained adequate data. Scores are based on public data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and information gathered independently from the Leapfrog Group Hospital Survey or the American Hospital Association’s annual survey.

"Trinitas has a long-standing commitment to patient safety as evidenced by our participation in the national hospital engagement network initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services," Bernadette Pryor, RN-BC, MSN, MA, CPHQ, director of performance improvement, said in a news release. "We have also had an impressive record of reducing central-line associated bloodstream infections. To see our vigilance reflected in these top scores is a testament to how we all strive to maintain patient safety and patient care as top priorities every day."

The Leapfrog program grades hospitals nationwide on their overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. In the survey, 791 hospitals across the nation achieved "A" ratings, representing 30% of those surveyed.
