Several local hospitals were selected to be on the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals list. Truven Health Analytics, formerly Thomson Reuters, recently released its annual study identifying the 100 top U.S. hospitals based on their overall organizational performance. For the fifth year, Truven Health Analytics also is recognizing the 100 Top Hospitals Everest Award winners — those hospitals among the 100 winners that delivered the greatest rate of improvement over five years. This year, there are 16 Everest Award winners.

Local major teaching hospitals named to the top 100 hospitals list were Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill.; Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago; Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.; NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, Ill.; and Northwestern Memorial Hospital Chicago. Large community hospitals named to the list were Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Ill., and Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Ill.

Everest Award winners were Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.

According to a news release, the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for acute MI, heart failure and pneumonia.
