DeKalb Medical Wellness on Wheels in Decatur, Ga., was awarded a $35,000 grant by Itís The Journey Inc., producer of the October Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, according to a news release. The grant will fund screening mammograms and breast diagnostic services, including biopsy, in the underserved areas of DeKalb and surrounding communities.

"Itís The Journey and Wellness on Wheels have partnered for many years in the fight against breast cancer, and we are very happy to continue this partnership to meet our ultimate goal of diagnosing breast cancer in the earlier stages and decreasing mortality," Janet Rizan, executive director of Wellness on Wheels, said in the release.

In other news, DeKalb Medicalís Comprehensive Breast Center has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Accreditation by the NAPBC is given to centers that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC, including proficiency in center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.
