Nurses from Saint Clare’s Health System, Denville, N.J., took part Feb. 23 in a Saint Clare’s CARES: A Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Event at Rockaway Townsquare mall.

The free event, in which Saint Clare’s physicians also participated, featured discussions on topics including obesity, exercise, heart disease risk factors, thyroid cancer detection and stress management. Guests participated in interactive demonstrations and received tips on heart-healthy meal preparation, yoga and screenings.

Robotic surgery was showcased with an interactive demonstration using the da Vinci Si Surgical System.

Katie Pierson, RN, who works as an orthopedic nurse navigator at the Center for Joint Replacement at Saint Clare’s, shared information about knee and hip procedures and other health topics.

Candy Larkins, RN, a nurse navigator in the thyroid treatment center, worked with Swati Sharma, MD, to provide thyroid scans to community members at the event. •
