D Magazine features Texas nurses

The March edition of D Magazine, Dallas’ city magazine, featured 15 Methodist Health System nurses honored in the magazine’s second annual Nursing in Excellence Awards.

Four of the 21 nurses chosen for special recognition are Methodist Health System nurses and include Kathleen Andrews, RN, BSN, in the Intensive Care category; Pamala Gessling, RN,C-OB, BSN, MBA, NEA-BC, in the Women’s Health category; Jeanne Reeves, RN, BSN, MS, CNO, in the Nursing Administration category, and Ulondia Lee, RN, MSN, in the Internal Medicine category.

"All of these extraordinary nurses are role models for Methodist and are admired for their leadership and clinical expertise," Pamela Stoyanoff, executive vice president and COO, said in a news release.

The 11 Methodist Health System nurse finalists honored at the publication’s ceremony include Stacey Castellanos, RN, MS, FNP-C, CNRN, CCRN; Winfred Neal, RN, BSN; Jennifer Tullis, RN, BSN, ONC; Allison Vo, RN, BSN, OCN; Shelley Cook, RN, BSN; Hayley Hendon, RN; Juanita Hernandez, RN, MSN; Sharon Smith, RN, BSN; Tim Taylor RN, BSN; and Vicki Wiseman, RN,C-OB, BSN, MBA.

D magazine also honored seven Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas nurses in its Excellence in Nursing Awards. The honorees include Thao Nguyen, RN, BSN, RN,C-NIC, CCRN, Neonatal winner; Julie Balluck, RN, MSN, CPAN, NEA-BC, director of surgical services, Surgery winner; Lian Chow, RN, BSN, CPAN, direct care nurse for postanesthesia care, Surgery finalist; Shasion Carter, RN, BSN, direct care nurse for postanesthesia care, Surgery finalist; Irva Rubin, RN, staff nurse for gynecology, Women’s Health finalist; Susan Cooper, RN, BSN, CPAN, nurse manager for postanesthesia care, Research finalist; and Barbara Baggett, RN, direct care nurse for orthopedics, Orthopedics finalist.

“It is an honor to practice with these excellent examples of professional nurses and to have them recognized for their compassionate patient care, their courageous spirits and expertise in their specialty,” Cole Edmonson, RN, DNP, FACHE, NEA-BC, CNO at Texas Health Dallas, said. D Magazine, in partnership with the Texas Health Council asked local hospitals, private practices, doctors and patients to nominate RNs in any of 21 categories.

The magazine received 339 nominations highlighting how each nurse affected the lives of others, their community and profession, according to a news release. “They are all extraordinary examples of excellence in action as they care for patients each day,” Tim Rogers, editor of D Magazine, said in the release.
