The Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del., announced that Alexa Baich, a senior student from Rehoboth Beach, Del., is the recipient of the Dr. Carl G. Pierce Jr. Scholarship.

According to a news release, the scholarship is awarded to a student who has a caring and professional attitude and an interest in pediatrics. It is based on his or her academic performance in maternal, child and family health nursing.

The scholarship was initiated by the family of Carl G. Pierce Jr., a physician at Beebe Hospital from 1951 until he retired in 1987. Pierce had a long association with the school of nursing where he served as school physician and taught student nurses during his career.
