Janice Petrella Lynch, RN
Janice Petrella Lynch, RN, MSN, nurse editor/nurse executive for Nurse.com, received the 2013 NAHCR IMAGE Media Award for her cover story "Home, Shook Home."

The article, published in the Nov. 19, 2012, edition of the New York/New Jersey regional edition, profiled home care nurses in the region and their extraordinary efforts in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. (To read the article, visit www.Nurse.com/Article/Home-Care-Sandy).

The announcement was made July 18 at the annual conference of the National Association for Health Care Recruitment in Minneapolis. The award recognizes individuals in the media who most positively portray to the general public contributions made by healthcare professionals. Barry Bottino, regional editor for the New York/New Jersey edition, accepted the award on behalf of Nurse.com and Lynch.

"Despite their own personal losses, treacherous roads and extensive power outages, these amazing nurses traveled by foot, bicycle, car or even public transportation to take care of their patients, some even going to nearby shelters to find them," Lynch said. "The nurses I spoke with were impressed with their patientsí courage and perseverance; and while I listened to their stories, I was in awe of their heroic and relentless efforts under extremely harsh conditions."

"This award stands for what Nurse.com does every day — share the positive contributions made by healthcare professionals," said Heather Cygan, vice president of news. "I applaud the staff who put the nursesí stories together into this compelling article and the nurses who went the extra mile to ensure their patients were cared for and safe."

Derek Cunningham, talent manager at Scripps Health and president-elect of NAHCR, presented the award and, referring to the awards judging panel, said Lynch's story "touched us all."
