Nurses at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Affairs Hospital in Hines, Ill., recently achieved the following:

Thomas Koppes, RN, was recognized at Hines VA Research Day for his contributions and exceptional service to the Research & Development Institutional Review Board.

Araceli Mendoza, RN-BC, MSN, CNS, geriatric clinic lead nurse was selected by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Item Writers for the Ambulatory Care Nurse Certification Exam as an alternate examination item writer.

Carol Kostovich, RN, PhD, a research investigator, joined Loyola University’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing in Maywood, Ill., as an associate professor.

Research service celebrated National VA Research Week in May with a poster session and presentations. Deirdre Murphy, RN, MSN, achieved second place for a study/poster.

Mary Theresa Lau, RN, APN, CNS, CRNI, VA-BC, was a contributing author to "Brunner & Suddarth’s Textbook of Medical Surgical Nursing," edition 13. She authored the parenteral nutrition half of the enteral and parenteral nutrition chapter.

Dorothy Velasquez, RN, MSN, presented on nursing leadership rounding to Hines Nurse Executive Council members on June 19. Debbie Holzer RN, MSN, passed the CRRN exam in rehabilitation nursing.
