White Memorial Medical Center, Los Angeles, recognized Gloria Santamaria, RN, a PACU nurse, with a DAISY Award in July,

"Gloria exemplifies the true meaning of patient care," one patient’s family member said in a news release. "She was the first person my mom saw after her total knee replacement, and was so caring and compassionate that my mom is still talking about her and how thoughtful and soothing she was. Thank you White Memorial for having such a wonderful staff, and thank you Gloria for everything."

Another patient’s physician, John Itamura, MD, said in a release: "My patient who is a doctor was amazed and could not stop talking about how great his PACU RN (Gloria) was. He specifically said she was the most 'professional, compassionate and capable’ nurse he has ever met. His family could not be happier with the care he received." •
