Julie Christensen, RN, recently received the DAISY Award from Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Ill., for her extraordinary effort and care with patients during her nursing career, according to a news release.

Among her many accomplishments, Christensen most recently touched the life of a patient who after two years of undergoing chemotherapy for appendix cancer underwent hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, which involves bathing the abdominal cavity with heated chemotherapy to attack any remaining cancer cells.

Throughout the patientís treatment, according to the release, Christensen made it a point to comfort the patientís daughters, and consistently keep the family and doctors up-to-date on the treatment plan and progress. Her ease in uplifting the patientís spirit and doing extra tasks made a difference in the familyís cancer experience.
