Miami Children’s Hospital received three 2013 South Florida Parenting Kids Crown Awards, including Best Pediatric Hospital in Miami-Dade County, Best Pediatric ER in Miami-Dade County and Best Kept Secret: Miami Children’s Hospital Doral Outpatient Center, according to a news release.

Kids Crown winners are chosen annually by the readers of South Florida Parenting magazine. "At Miami Children’s, we are committed to offering the best, cutting-edge care in an environment that is truly supportive of the child and family," Narendra Kini, MD, MHA, president and CEO of Miami Children’s Hospital, said in a news release. "We are honored to be recognized by the families of our community and dedicate ourselves to continuous advancement in the care of those we are privileged to serve."

In other news, two dozen patients from the hospital attended Camp Funrise, a weeklong, annual camp sponsored by MCH and the Florida Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. Camp Funrise is exclusively for MCH patients who have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

MCH nurses, physicians and physical and occupational therapists volunteer their time to provide on-site support to these patients.

The camp took place June 23-29 at AD Barnes Park in Miami. Under the supervision of nurses and medical staff from the hospital, the patients participated in a variety of exercises including kickboxing, Zumba and tai chi to help with their rheumatologic needs.
