The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses conferred a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence on the ICU to Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago.

Established in 2003, the Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. These six categories include leadership structures and systems; appropriate staffing and staff engagement; effective communication; knowledge management, learning and development; evidence-based practice and processes; and patient outcomes.

“The Beacon Award for Excellence application was written entirely by the ICU Shared Leadership team and ICU staff,” Kathleen Cantos, RN, BSN, CCRN, nurse manager of the ICU at Presence Resurrection, said in a news release. “We are even prouder that we were able to achieve this milestone within three years of merging the medical and surgical ICU into one ICU.”
