Question:

Dear Donna,

What exams do I need to take to get a U.S. nursing license with my BSc nursing degree and years of experience from India?

Wants a U.S. license

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Wants a U.S. license,

Start by visiting the web site (www.cgfns.org). Here you will find information and instructions about having your education credentials verified, getting a work visa, and other tests you may need to take to verify your English language ability, etc. in preparation for licensure in the U.S. The latter requirement varies by state.

If you are already living in the U.S., contact the Board of Nursing in your U.S. state to see what it requires for licensure for those educated outside of the U.S. Find the state BONs here (https://www.ncsbn.org/contactbon.htm). If you aren't in the U.S. yet, you can take this step later.

Contact the National Association of Indian Nurses of America (http://www.nainausa.com) for additional advice and support of this process.

Best wishes,

Donna
