Joe Heidrick, RN, MSN, has assumed the role of chairman of the School of Nursing at Western New Mexico University, Silver City. He replaces Patricia McIntire, RN, FNP, MSN, who had served as chairwoman since 1995, according to a news release.

Heidrick said he is looking forward to continuing all the work and achievements in the school that have taken place under McIntire.

The School of Nursing is in the process of reaccreditation for the ASN program. The entire faculty completed a self-study document as part of the process.

In October, the school hosted a site visit for a team from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

The site visit team report recommended eight years of continuing accreditation and identified areas needing continued work.

A review panel of nurse educators concurred with the site visitors’ recommendation, which will be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for review. The school expects to make a formal announcement of the results in the first half of 2014.

Another opportunity for the School of Nursing is adopting the statewide BSN curriculum through the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium slated for 2015.
