Capella University, based in Minneapolis, has announced the addition of a new BSN-to-DNP pathway. The program provides nurses with a BSN an accelerated pathway to Capella’s CCNE-accredited DNP degree, according to a news release from Cappella Education. Capella’s BSN-to-DNP pathway further expands the online university’s range of doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s and certificate options for nurses.

“Our DNP focuses on administrative, organizational and systems leadership competencies and is designed to help our students make immediate, practical contributions to the nursing field,” Christy Davidson, RNC-OB, DNP, Capella’s director of nursing, said in the release. “For BSN-educated nurses whose ultimate goal is a DNP, our new BSN-to-DNP pathway provides the most direct path to a DNP – without having to earn an MSN along the way. Our DNP also includes special features to make returning to school less stressful, including peer mentoring, a social media nursing group and other elements designed to help students every step of the way.”

Capella’s BSN-to-DNP pathway includes master’s-level course work that prepares students for the DNP program and satisfies the AACN’s Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing. Capella’s DNP is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and has recently been updated to bring its fieldwork requirements into even closer alignment with CCNE standards. Capella’s DNP curriculum is based on the AACN’s Essentials of the Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice.

Capella is offering a nurse leader grant opportunity of $5,000 for students who hold an RN license, enroll in the BSN-to-DNP or other doctoral nursing program at Capella, and meet other eligibility requirements. Students must apply before they begin courses and begin their program no later than Sept. 8. More information is available at http://bit.ly/CapellaNurseLeaderGrant.

Maryland and North Carolina residents are not eligible to enroll in this program, and it is not designed to prepare graduates for entry-level or advanced practice licensure as a nurse.
