Galen College of Nursing, established in Louisville, Ky., launched a new online RN-to-BSN degree program to its list of offerings this summer.

“We are excited to add the new online RN-to-BSN to our nursing education programs after several years of work with healthcare experts and faculty to develop a highly customized, affordable and flexible curriculum,” Mark A. Vogt, president of Galen College of Nursing, said in a news release. “Galen looks forward to helping not only those with associate degrees looking to take the next step in their careers, but also students who are earning their first nursing degree, develop into healthcare advocates and thought leaders.”

Galen’s online program was developed to help the nursing workforce prepare for industry trends identified by the Institute of Medicine.

Galen’s RN-to-BSN offers interactive, content-rich courses with special areas of focus, according to the release.

The first area of focus offered will be “Leadership and Management,” developed in partnership with Lee Cockerell, former executive vice president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

An assigned student support liaison will provide individualized assistance, similar to an on-campus experience.

The online program will first be available to residents of Kentucky, Indiana, Florida and Ohio, with the university planning to expand to Texas and other states throughout 2015, according to the release. Students can register for the program during six enrollment periods offered throughout the year.
