The Institute for Diversity in Health Management recently recognized the Washington, D.C. VA Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for their performance on the institutes State of Health Care Diversity and Disparities: A Benchmark Study of U.S. Hospitals. The survey was designed to provide a snapshot of the hospital fields progress on promoting diversity and to help hospitals assess and improve their internal diversity programs.
The VA Medical Center earned Best in Class recognition in three categories: Expanding the Diversity of the Organizations Governance Body and Leadership Team; Strengthening a Diverse Workforce throughout the Organization; and Delivering Culturally and Linguistically Competent Patient Care throughout the Organization.
The facility also was named one of the Promising Practices in the category Effectively Engaging the Diverse Communities that the Organization Serves.
