Greater Philadelphia Tri-State Notable Nurses


Karyn Holt, CNM, MSN, PhD, an assistant professor at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia, along with the American Red Cross of Alaska, has been recognized by the national American Red Cross for the chapter’s work to enhance the network of nurses in Alaska.

The Susan Hassmiller Nursing Award is part of the 2010 National Awards and Presidential Awards for Excellence, given by American Red Cross CEO Gail McGovern.

Associate Dean Mary Ellen Smith Glasgow, RN, PhD, ACNS-BC, has been recognized as a lead author in one of the three papers that informed the Institute of Medicine’s 2010 report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.”

Smith Glasgow emphasized the desire for nurses from academic and practice settings to come together for curricular development and delineated specific needs for technology-infused education, transdisciplinary approaches to care and translational research.

The Chester County Hospital, West Chester, Pa.: RNs recently honored with service awards were Janet DiBartolomeo and Christine Volk (40 years), and Linda E. Detwiler and Jean W. Gallagher (35 years).

PACU nurse Cathy Case, RN, MSN, CPAN, earned an MSN in public health nursing from West Chester University.

Kathy Jones, RN, MSN, renewed her certified diabetes educator status and was among numerous nurses achieving certifications, including Susanna Linton, Denise Meli, Tara McCusker and Lisa Shallis (inpatient obstetrics), Amy D’Antonio, Claudia Haberle and Maureen Kenzakowski (maternal newborn nursing), Kathleen Bizal (electronic fetal monitoring), Kim Andrien, Rebecca Boehnke, Pamela Breiner, Kim Johnson and Blythe Moran (neonatal nursing), Betty Brennan, Cornelia Meulenberg, Julie Musantry, Sarah Niemiec, Patience Terkowski, Rick Terkowski and Suzanne Wurster (emergency nursing), and Terri Bugniazet (emergency nursing and pediatric emergency nurse).

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (N.J.): RNs Tasneem Nadeem and Fatmata Kamara achieved PCCN certification.

Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover, Del.: ICU nurse John Gossman, RN, CCRN, was named clinical coordinator for the day shift at Kent General Hospital. Fellow Kent ICU nurse Pam Kaplan earned CCRN certification. Rebecca Doty was honored with a DAISY Award.

Cardiovascular surgical ICU RN Holly Dapias received the Geraldine Webb-Palladino Award as the Health Educator of the Year for Kent. Critical care clinical nurse specialist Cathy Gegaris received the Carol Soots Award as Health Educator of the Year for Milford Memorial Hospital.

Other Kent nominees were Staci Manning, Jacqueline Griffith, Gloria Shuba, Melanie McKennett and Mary Ella Quillen.

Milford nominees were Rita Buck, Deborah Chaffinch and Carol Sigman. Women’s Services RN Sherry Hill has been honored as a Bayhealth Service Excellence Employee of the Month.

Kent med/surg Clinical Coordinators Irene Roberts and Glenda Delacruz were honored with 1A Peer Awards. Nurses are nominated by their peers for the award, which recognizes clinical excellence, outstanding patient service and exemplary teamwork.

Kent ICU nurses Jamie Anthony and Rebekah Minner earned CCRN certifications. ICU Clinical Practice Leader Angel Dewey completed her MSN at the University of Delaware.

ICU staff nurse Tamica Burns earned her BSN from Wilmington University.
