Carondelet Foundation announced a $4.5 million gift from the estate of Winifred Q. Witt, designated for the benefit of Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care in Tucson, Ariz.
“In 1977, St. Mary’s Hospital was home to the first hospice in Arizona, and one of the first three in the U.S.,” said Lupe Trieste, RN, executive director of Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care. “Support of patients and families facing end-of-life issues and bereavement has now become an accepted part of our national healthcare continuum. With this gift, Carondelet will be able to ensure enduring, quality programs of support and comfort.”
Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care partners with patients and their families to meet the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of people living with a life-limiting illness.
Witt came to Tucson after serving in the Women’s Army Corps in World War II. She died in September 2010 at age 94.
