Aspiring nurse practitioners can apply for scholarships through a program sponsored by MinuteClinic and the Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies.

The “Together We Care” Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Program will offer up to 30 scholarships worth $2,500 apiece for MSN students and up to five scholarships worth $5,000 each for DNP students. The funds will be eligible to cover tuition, books and academic fees for the 2013-14 academic year.

Scholarship applications will be accepted from Jan. 6 to May 1 at Applicants must be legal U.S. residents enrolled in nationally accredited nurse practitioner master’s or doctoral programs.

To be eligible, students must be in programs leading to licensure as an APRN with a family nurse practitioner specialty or other special interest in community or public health. High academic performance and strong community involvement will be taken into account.

“As one of the nation’s largest employers of nurse practitioners, we know that these dedicated professionals will play an essential role in helping to address the nation’s primary care practitioner shortage and make high-quality, convenient and affordable healthcare services more accessible to the American public,” Paulette Thabault, chief nurse practitioner officer for MinuteClinic, said in a news release.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies to create a scholarship program that will help more qualified individuals move forward in the nursing profession to become advanced practice providers.”

CVS store and pharmacy customers can help raise money for the scholarships by purchasing select Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies products at any of the more than 7,000 CVS locations across the U.S. from Jan. 6-12. For each product purchased, Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies will donate 10 cents toward scholarships, up to $100,000.
