Patients who come to Silverton (Ore.) Health are pleased with the care they receive. Silverton Health was the only 2012 Oregon winner of the Press Ganey Summit Award for patient satisfaction, an honor it has received five consecutive times.
The Summit Award recognizes top-performing facilities that sustain the highest level of patient satisfaction performance for at least three consecutive years. Across the nation, only 114 organizations received this honor in 2012.
Ray Wilson, RN, BSN, nurse manager of med/surg, intensive care and the outpatient extended stay units, said teamwork makes Silverton stand out among healthcare facilities.
“We have an outstanding team here,” Wilson said in a news release. “We work together as a team — thats everyone from nurses to physicians, from environmental to nutrition services. Our patients see that; they know that we are all here to care for them and that their health and safety is our first priority.”
Wilson, who worked as a bedside nurse for 12 years before becoming a manager, also credits the support nurses receive from administration.
“People go into nursing — and healthcare jobs in general — because they want to help people get better, or lessen a persons pain and suffering,” Wilson said in the release. “The nurses here have a motto, ‘I have time, and thats because of our excellent staffing ratio. Each nurse is assigned an appropriate patient load based on severity of illness, allowing them to give more attention and put a personal touch to the care they are giving their patients.”
Press Ganey partners with more than 10,000 healthcare facilities, including more than half of all U.S. hospitals, to measure and improve the patient experience.
