Christus Santa Rosa in Texas wins Success Story Award


Christus Santa Rosa Health System was named a 2012 Success Story Award winner by Press Ganey Associates Inc.

The award recognizes facilities that have demonstrated leadership, implemented organizational change and improved performance, according to a news release.

The Success Story Award represents an important recognition of our clinical quality improvement efforts,” Pat Carrier, president and CEO, Christus Santa Rosa Health System, said in the release.

The health system improved core measures performance by assigning nursing staff and physician accountability for specific components of the patient care process, according to the release.

“Over the past year, we have tracked the performance of specific nursing units and individual physicians,” Patty Toney, RN, CNE, Christus Santa Rosa Health System, said in the release. “Success and high performance are celebrated, while exceptions are addressed directly with those responsible.”

Christus Santa Rosa is one of 13 organizations honored in 2012, and one of only three organizations to receive the award for clinical performance, according to the release.

In other news, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Westover Hills in San Antonio was named a Texas Ten Step facility from the Department of State Health Services in recognition of it is breastfeeding program and policies.

The hospital is part of the growing number of birth facilities with programs encouraging breastfeeding as the preferred feeding method for newborns and infants, according to a news release. The Westover Hills location is the second hospital in the Christus Santa Rosa Health System to receive it, according to a news release.

“We are very proud of the services we have in place to support new moms with breastfeeding,” Elsie Simpson, RN, CNO, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Westover Hills, said in the release. “We’re excited to be recognized for our dedication to promoting breastfeeding for new moms before, during and after their hospital stay.”

A Texas Ten Step designation requires facilities to address 85% of the World Health Organization’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and be a Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite with policies offering flexibility and accessibility for breastfeeding employees, according to the release.
