Cardiac and vascular ICU at Washington Adventist receives Beacon award

The cardiac and vascular ICU at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md., was awarded the silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

According to a news release, the Beacon Award for Excellence is a three-year award that recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six healthy work environment standards.

“We’re very proud of this recognition,” Maria Jurlano, RN, MS, CCRN, director of the CVICU, said in the release. “This is a true validation of the work and dedication of the CVICU team in doing the right thing for our patients and their families.”

Washington Adventist Hospital’s CVICU earned the silver award by meeting the following evidence-based Beacon Award for Excellence criteria: leadership structures and systems; appropriate staffing and staff engagement; effective communication, knowledge management, learning and development and best practices; evidence-based practice and processes; and patient outcomes.
