The Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses recently announced its 2013 class of emerging leaders. Among the class was Lisa Pile, RN, MSN, BSN, ADN, who has been a nurse for 15 years and is a staff RN at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Ill. She completed her MSN in October and lives in Aurora, Ill.
Launched in 2007, the Emerging Leaders Program engages nurses in a formal, yearlong leadership training program, according to a news release. Activities include guidance from mentors, networking events, meetings with members of Congress and their staff, multiple continuing education opportunities, AWHONN committee assignments and other experiential training to build confidence and leadership skills among participants.
The Emerging Leaders Program is made possible through a one-year educational grant from the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursings Future.
“We are impressed with the high caliber of future nursing leaders, and this years class is no exception,” AWHONN CEO Karen Peddicord, RN, PhD, said in the release. “We are also extremely grateful for Johnson & Johnsons continued commitment to this important program.”
The AWHONN Emerging Leaders Program places special emphasis on fostering diversity — in age, race and gender — among its prospects, according to the release. Participant selection was based on each applicants skills, experience and enthusiasm for womens health and perinatal nursing.
