Abilene, Texas, now is home to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Centers new campus, which opened March 1. Construction on the new building began in April 2012. TTUHSC School of Nursing partnered with Hendrick Health System to establish a Web-based second-degree nursing program in Abilene in 2008 and expanded its traditional BSN program to Abilene in May 2009.
The TTUHSC School of Nursing in Abilene serves as a valuable contribution to the healthcare field, Pearl Merritt, RN, EdD, regional dean of the TTUHSC School of Nursing in Abilene, said in a news release.
“Abilene is becoming a healthcare hub that is so crucial to the surrounding communities, and as a dean of the school of nursing, I feel fortunate to play an important role in making this happen,” Merritt said in the release. “Our new school of nursing will be a great asset to the community, and we strive to give back in various ways.”
According to the release, the TTUHSC School of Nursing in Abilene has an enrollment of 100 students and is anticipated to serve an additional 104 students by 2015. Other available programs include the online RN-to-BSN program.
