Memorial Sloan-Kettering recognizes 6 with Nurses Week awards


Five distinguished Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center nurses and one unit assistant were recognized for exemplary service May 8 at this year’s Samuel and May Rudin Awards ceremony during National Nurses Week.

This year’s winners were Fred Haro-Zuniga, RN, clinical nurse 3, OR (Excellence in Nursing Practice); Virginia Morales, RN, MSN, clinical nurse 3, Memorial 14 (Excellence in Nursing Practice); Joseph B. Narus, RN, DNP, APRN, NP-BC, nurse practitioner, male sexual and reproductive medicine program (Excellence in Advanced Nursing Practice); Karen Collum, RN, MSN, clinical program manager, adult bone marrow transplant service (Excellence in Nursing Leadership); Janine Kennedy, RN, MSN, clinical nurse specialist, urgent care center (Excellence in Nursing Education); and Katherine Gamble, unit assistant, ICU (Excellence in Patient Care Support).

An annual event, the Rudin Awards are sponsored by the Rudin Family Foundation. The award winners were nominated by fellow nurses, administrators, physicians and patients.

Last year’s winners review the nominations and elect this year’s winners.
