Retired nurses bring smiles to Beth Israel patients

Once classmates at Beth Israel School of Nursing, New York City, June Klein Prisand and Marcy Shwam Traub have remained friends since graduating in 1967.

Though both are now retired RNs, Prisand and Traub have remained close to their nursing roots.

Prisand serves as director of product management and hospital liaison for the Hannah Banana Foundation, where Traub also volunteers as a liaison for Beth Israel Medical Center, Brooklyn.

The foundation, named to honor Prisand’s late sister-in-law, Hannah Prisand, brings smiles to chronically ill patients in the hospital through gift bags filled with fun activities.

The gift bags include therapeutic items such as art supplies, toys, journals and activity-oriented books.
