Abington Memorial Hospital wins TrueNorth Award for nurse certification excellence

0

Abington (Pa.) Memorial Hospital earned the Competency & Credentialing Institute’s 2013 TrueNorth Award for the surgical services department’s commitment to advanced nursing credentialing, according to a news release.

“CCI is pleased to recognize Abington Memorial Hospital for creating a culture that promotes specialty nursing certification,” Betsy Sklar, director of business development at CCI, said in the release. “In many ways, certification acts as a compass directing a nurse’s clinical practice toward the nationally accepted standards, which is the foundation of safe patient care.”

AMH had an 87.5% CNOR certification rate among perioperative nurse leadership, according to the release, and 46% of its eligible OR nursing staff are certified. Along with its CNOR certification rate, AMH received the TrueNorth Award because of its commitment to reward and recognize perioperative nurses who become certified, according to the release. AMH has realized an increase in its annual certification growth rate, improved employee retention and recruitment, as well as an increase in professionalism and job satisfaction.
