At an awards ceremony during National Nurses Week, Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia announced the 2013 winner of the Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship is Karen Tranchitella, RN, of the hospitals short procedure unit. This scholarship is worth $2,500 toward an academic nursing degree, which Tranchitella is pursuing at Immaculata (Pa.) University.
The Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by her family, friends and colleagues to honor the memory of Terry Larkins, RN, BSN, MSN, CCRN. Larkins was a nurse educator and nursing director at Nazareth Hospital and later at St. Agnes Medical Center whose infectious passion for nursing and professional development influenced many of her colleagues, according to a news release. Larkins died in a car accident the fall of 2002.
“The Terry Larkins Memorial Scholarship Fund keeps the memory of an amazing educator and nurse alive,” Michael F. Beshel, RN, MBA, MHA, BSN, NE-BC, vice president of patient care services and CNO, said in the release. “Terrys legacy is continuing to advance the professional development of Nazareths nursing staff.”
