LIU Brooklyn nursing students, grads join honor society

More than 60 new members, including undergraduate students, graduate students and community leaders, were inducted into the Long Island University Brooklyn’s School of Nursing honor society May 2 during ceremonies.

Shirley A. Girouard, RN, PhD, FAAN, dean of the school of nursing, gave the keynote address, titled “Nursing: Evidence-Based Practice and Research — It’s Everyone’s Business.”

Welcoming remarks were provided by Sandra Maldonado, RN, MSN, BS, assistant professor at the school of nursing. Amy Ma, RN, DNP, MS,associate professor, served as emcee and represented the steering committee and honor society members.

Professor Evelyn Biray, RN, MS, PMed, CCRN, CMSRN, and Assistant Professor Erlinda N. Dubal, RN, BSN, MBA, MA, distributed certificates. Gayle Harrison, RN, professor, distributed ribbons. Diane R. Maydick, RN, EdD, MSN, director of clinical affairs at Derma Sciences, Princeton, N.J., and LIU assistant professor of nursing, lauded inductees and spoke of the requirements for membership: scholarship, leadership, community service and character. •
