During National Nurses Week, Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia recognized the winners of its fourth annual Nursing Excellence Awards.
Nancy Cherone, FACHE, executive director and administrator, and Michael F. Beshel, RN, BSN, MBA, MHA, NE-BC, vice president of patient care services and CNO, presented the awards at a special luncheon at the hospital.
Nursing Excellence Award winners were nominated by their peers and evaluated according to specific criteria by a selection committee.
• Award of Excellence in Nursing Practice: Jozelle Woodard, RN, endoscopy. This award is presented to an RN who demonstrates excellence in nursing practice and delivers compassionate, person-centered care by applying knowledge of evidence-based practice guidelines, critical thinking skills and clinical decision-making.
• Rising Star Award: Lauren Macdonnell, RN, neuroscience unit. This award is presented to a novice nursing professional who delivers excellent care, exhibits great teamwork and passion for nursing and actively works for performance improvement within the unit and by participation on councils.
• Award for Advocacy: Teresa Noell, RN, SPU. This award is presented to an RN who has made outstanding efforts in advocacy.
• Award for Nursing Leadership: Jackie Koenig, RN, ICU. This award is presented to an RN who demonstrates excellence in leadership, as evidenced by strategy development and implementation and resource management.
“Our nursing staff provides excellent care to each of our patients,” Beshel said in the release. “These awards recognize those who inspire their colleagues and lead by example. Congratulations to our award recipients.”
