0

The eLine Military Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi was recognized with the 2013 President’s Silver Wave Award on Aug. 26 during the President’s Fall Faculty Staff Meeting. The award was accepted by Mary Jane Hamilton, RN, PhD, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The college has been garnering national attention for its program, which allows those with military medical education and experience to take nursing courses, graduate sooner and assume positions in the nursing profession.

The program was highlighted in a White House report prepared by the National Economic Council and the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, and Hamilton has been invited to share the stage with first lady Michelle Obama and attend White House briefings. The ELM program had its first three graduates in August, according to a news release. Fifty students are enrolled, and 300 are being advised, the release said.

The program is the seventh recipient of the Silver Wave Award, which was started in 2005. The award is presented to a person or program that brings national and international attention to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
