Michelle Quigley, RN, MSN, has been named CNO at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Quigley most recently worked at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Los Angeles. She started her career in Chicago as a staff nurse in pediatrics.
Ive always been attracted to Weiss, due to the hospitals strong commitment to the community, excellent physicians and nursing care, Quigley said in a news release. Its academic affiliations and clinical milieu make it a great place to practice nursing and medicine.
Quigley worked as a supervisor of occupational health services at Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company in Chicago and as a director of Bureau of Employee Health Services for the Chicago Public Schools before moving to California. She has been a surgical nurse, charge nurse, director in various clinical settings and assistant CNO. Quigley also served as adjunct faculty at University of Illinois in Chicago and faculty at Dominican University in the San Francisco Bay area, teaching graduate students various courses.
At Weiss, according to the release, Quigley plans to build on the strengths of the clinical leadership and develop them to a place in which nurses are strong members of interdisciplinary teams; encourage evidence-based practice in the delivery of care; improve patient satisfaction; establish unit-based councils; and decrease the use of agency nursing while building a team of nurses that would like to practice at Weiss.
I have always felt honored to be part of the nursing profession, Quigley said in the release. When a care provider crosses the threshold of a patients door, we move from our world of practical preparation into the patients and familys world, where we must tread with great humility.
Quigley is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Sigma Theta Tau International, The Honor Society of Nursing and the American Diabetes Association. She is a sought after presenter on topics such as nursing administration and leadership.
Quigley assumed the CNO position at Weiss in August.
