The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses has awarded Beth Savage, RN, MSN, CPNP, CPON, the 2013 Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award.
Savage, a pediatric APN at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick, was nominated by colleagues for her contributions to APHON and the pediatric hematology/oncology nursing community, according to a news release.
She has been an active member of APHON for 17 years, during which she has contributed to several publications, presented at APHON conferences and served on the steering council. She currently serves on the nominating committee.
Savage received her award at the 37th annual APHON Conference and Exhibit in September in Louisville, Ky.
The award is given in honor of APHONs first president, who lost her battle with cancer in 1999.
Beth is a nursing leader in pediatric hematology-oncology, Deena Centofanti, RN, MSN, AOCN, said in her nominating letter. She has developed teaching and discharge materials for patients and has planned and lectured at numerous conferences for APHON, local organizations and patient programs. She is an advocate for all patients, especially her young-adult patients, and is respected by colleagues and collaborating physicians.
