Mount Saint Vincent nursing alums take part in Guatemala mission

Four nursing alumni from College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx participated in their second annual mission trip to Guatemala in February.

Bernadette Amicucci, RN, DNS, CNE, of Pleasantville, N.Y., Kathryn Caltabiano RN, MS, of Oswego, N.Y., Katherine Dowdle, RN, MS, CNE, of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and Patricia Rosso, RN, BSN, of Manhasset, N.Y., made up the second group of RNs to volunteer. The women visited the Sisters of Charity in El Novillero in Solala, Guatemala, as part of a healthcare mission to serve the people in village clinics throughout the area.

Along with the native local physician, Jose Miguel Vasquez, the nurses helped to assess and provide care to the underserved people of the area for a week.
In addition to working in local clinics, the Mount Saint Vincent group had the opportunity to forge bonds with the Sisters of Charity whose work was established 53 years ago in the area. Sisters Immaculata Burke, Marie Tolle, Ann Denise Brennan and Cecelia Harriendorf hosted the New York visitors at their convent. A visit to the Barbara Ford Center for Peace in Santa Cruz concluded the trip.
