OCN brings ‘American Nurse’ documentary to Portland

0

The Oregon Center for Nursing will present a one-night only screening of the documentary “The American Nurse” at McMenamin’s Mission Theater in Portland at 6 p.m. May 19. This film is open to all ages, according to a news release.

The feature-length film by photographer Carolyn Jones and producer Lisa Frank offers a rare look at the work and lives of five American nurses. Through their eyes, “The American Nurse” shows a poignant look at the struggles of people living in poverty, sickness, war, or in prison, and how nursing impacts the lives of people in every setting.

“This is an amazing opportunity for nurses to celebrate our profession and show family and friends exactly what we do each and every day,” Mary Rita Hurley, RN, MPA, executive director of OCN, said in the release. “It is a very moving and accurate representation of how nurses change lives, physically
and mentally.”

“The American Nurse” is based on Jones’ award-winning book “The American Nurse: Photographs and Interviews by Carolyn Jones,” released in 2012.

Nurses can receive a complimentary continuing education credit through Nurse.com by viewing “The American Nurse” either in Digiplex Destinations theaters or via DVD purchase, digital download or digital rental.
