Nursing programs at three University of Texas campuses as well as the University of Florida at Gainesville rank among the nations top 50 in the list of the nations best graduate schools released in March by U.S. News and World Report.
The University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston School of Nursing is one of 11 graduate programs tied for 21st place with an average score of 4.0 points on a five-point scale. Programs at the University of Texas-Austin (tied for 32nd) and the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio (tied for 36th) also are in the top 50. The University of Florida College of Nursing in Gainesville ranks tied for 44th.
Rankings are based on the results of peer assessment surveys sent to deans, other administrators and/or faculty at accredited-degree programs or schools, according to the U.S. News website.
Respondents rated the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding). They were instructed to select dont know if they did not have enough knowledge to rate a program.
In addition to the three Texas schools in the top 50, six more Texas schools ranked in the top 100. Graduate nursing programs at the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston, University of Texas-Arlington, Baylor University in Dallas, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas Womans University and the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio all are part of a tie at No. 64.
Programs at Texas Christian University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton and the University of Texas-Tyler are part of a 99th-place tie.
The University of Texas-Arlington also achieved top 25 status in one specialty, ranking 24th with its NP family program.
In addition to the University of Florida at Gainesville, Florida schools that ranked in the top 100 are the University of South Florida in Tampa (tied for 64), the University of Central Florida in Orlando (tied for 79) and the University of Miami (tied for 79).
