A new mobile app launched by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society provides evidence-based wound care guidelines for clinicians, according to a May 1 news release.
The Evidence-Based Wound Care Guidelines and Fecal Ostomy Best Practice app, released by the Mount Laurel, N.J.-based WOCN, includes recommendations for patients with pressure ulcers, fecal ostomies, lower extremity arterial disease, lower extremity neuropathic disease and lower extremity venous disease.
The WOCN Society is excited to offer this mobile app, Phyllis Kupsick, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, CWOCN, WOCN president, said in the release. It truly represents the WOCN Societys continuing effort to investigate and develop new ways to assist both members of our organization and the industry in the delivery of expert patient care. The app can be utilized by anyone who purchases it, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physical therapists, and it directly benefits those in need of wound and ostomy care.
Clinicians can view the differential assessment algorithm and a comprehensive image library to help assess patients. The quick reference guide allows the provider to quickly locate an image or information and then view details related to the diagnosis with extended guidelines and tools.
The app includes information about five specific areas:
Pressure ulcers Evidence-based information about and an overview covering the background.
Fecal ostomy Types of ostomies, stoma site marking, patient education, pouching options and management and quality of life for patients.
Lower extremity arterial disease Evidence-based support to achieve improved, cost-effective patient outcomes and complication recommendations, along with evidence ratings to assess and manage patients with or at risk for wounds.
Lower extremity neuropathic disease Evidence-based assessment, prevention and management strategies for neuropathic patients, including patients with diabetes.
Lower extremity venous disease Evidence-based prevention and treatment recommendations.
The app costs $59.99. It can be downloaded through the Apple iTunes App Store and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and the iPod touch devices.
