NUMC unveils $2 million in maternity center renovations

0

A group of new moms and babies attended a pre-Mother’s Day event recently to celebrate a ribbon cutting at the new maternity center at Nassau University Medical Center, East Meadow, N.Y.
The $2 million renovation features 18,000 square feet of labor and delivery suites, including seven rooms for low- and medium-risk births, and three triage spaces with exam rooms and private bathrooms, according to a news release. Also included are two waiting rooms with a large nursing station and a lobby that is more than 7,000 square feet.
A birthing suite is being built with two rooms with tubs for water deliveries to complement the existing tub room. The maternal and newborn center also will include a postpartum suite for 22 beds.
Nearly 1,500 births take place each year at NUMC.
The first baby born more than 75 years ago at the hospital attended the ribbon cutting, the release said.
