Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center, Manhattan, honored Maria Teresa Sangcap, RN, during National Nurses Week as the first recipient of the facility’s newly established Sr. Miriam Kevin Phillips Mission Award for Nursing Excellence.
The award will be awarded annually to an RN or LPN who embodies the pediatric center’s mission.
“Ms. Sangcap is a passionate advocate for high-quality care for her residents and families, and she delivers this care with unending love and compassion,” Judy Bianca, RN, BSN, MPH, the center’s CNO, said in a news release. “She is dedicated to our mission of helping each child reach their fullest potential. I am privileged to work alongside her.”
Sangcap has been a nurse at Elizabeth Seton since 1992. She has worked in the facility’s Ellis Island neighborhood since joining the nursing team.
“In the busiest moments, Teresa remains calm for the patients as their fears are already high,” her nominator wrote of Sangcap. “She exemplifies what it means to be a mission-focused nurse at the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center. She is the most constant face for parents whose world has now brought them to the pediatric center.”
