Louise Baca, RN, MSN, administrator of the Kennedy Health System Cancer Program in Sewell, N.J., has been named the 2014 Business Person of the Year by the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce at its recent Community Service Awards. Baca, who joined Kennedy in 2010, was selected for her exceptional ability in making a difference in the community, according to a news release.
Baca is known as an advocate and active leader for cancer patients in Gloucester County and throughout South Jersey, according to the release. At Kennedy, she oversees the daily operations of Kennedys radiation oncology department and its cancer program.
As a trained oncology nurse, Baca seeks to ensure the physical and emotional needs of her patients. Under her leadership, the Kennedy Cancer Program launched the Center for Hope & Healing in 2011. It provides a haven where cancer patients and their family members can participate in non-treatment-related activities, or relax and reflect in a comforting environment.
Baca also played a key role in the establishment of the Kennedy Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund, which has provided more than $20,000 in non-medical financial assistance for Kennedy cancer patients experiencing financial hardships, according to the release. She also has spearheaded the annual Kennedys Cancer Survivors Day celebration at Washington Lake Park, an annual luncheon to honor breast cancer survivors and a special memorial tree-lighting event held in front of the cancer center at the start of the holiday season. In September, Baca will lead Team KICK (Kennedy Inspired Cancer Kickers) at the Bill Bottino Mud Run.
Baca earned her BSN from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She holds an MSN from Drexel University in Philadelphia in nursing leadership and management.
